I have a new essay up on Explorefaith.org about the Christian roots of Halloween. I'm not completely pleased with it and it is running long (anytime you get a historian going about a pet topic, it's hard to get her to shut up). But I remain fascinated by Halloween and its bedfellow, All Saints Day. And that's not even to mention the Dia de Los Muertos, which I don't touch upon here. Maybe next year. At the very least I plan to chomp on some skeleton cookies.
In other Halloween news, Jerusha is going as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, and has managed once again to scrape by without succumbing to a slutty costume. Check out here and here for some examples of the more, er, exciting Dorothy costumes we did not choose.
More good stuff from the author of "What Would Buffy Do?".

I had my RS decorate sugar skulls for enrichment this month (one of several activities). I'm decorating at least some of the leftovers to take to a party on Saturday. I'll post pictures on my blog!
One of these years I'm going to make papier mache skeletons . . . .
