I only have a few minutes to post--I am with friends at the Community of Jesus on Cape Cod. We are having a wonderful time and calling it work! Tonight there will be a dinner to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Paraclete Press, followed by a play and some general fun. Then it's off to Boston for the Society of Biblical Literature.
At some point this weekend I hope to catch a showing of the new Twilight movie, but I don't know that it's going to happen. It'll be interesting to see how the book is adapted to film. I'm still writing a review essay about the Mormon themes in Meyer's fiction, including The Host-- a piece that was due back in August and that I still have hanging over my head. I don't expect the theological POV to be teased out in the film, but maybe the movie will be the butt kick I need to get a few new ideas and finish the darn thing.
Speaking of vampires, I just wrote a review for Explorefaith on Anne Rice's new memoir, which chronicles her dramatic turn from vampire fiction to writing about Christ. It's a beautifully written, though curiously detached, memoir that faithfully follows the standard tropes of conversion narratives. Old-school Catholics are going to love it.
My roommate just told me I have five minutes to get dressed and ready for dinner. Bye!
Oh goodie! I was just thinking the other day about how interesting it would be to go through an analyse the theology of the books, and of the characters (Edward in particular with his "I think I am cursed to eternal damnation but I'm going to live right just in case" perspective) - So I'll be looking forward to hear when your article is published so I can hunt it down =)

I love the books to death, but I really did not like the movie at all. I don't know how anyone did.
